Do
arrange a
homework
club
|
What is a homework club?
Your child and classmates meet once a week at someone’s home to do homework together.
You may have the location on a weekly Rota or one parent’s home for English, another for math’s etc.
Save money on terrible tutorial schools with unqualified teachers!
|
When students work together and share knowledge they perform a number of communication functions, recalling, explaining, rephrasing.
These skills not only reinforce personal knowledge of the lesson topic but develop and practice lifelong, highly valuable inter personal communication skills and childhood friendships.

Don’t
buy
unsuitable
books |
What makes a book unsuitable or of low value for money? |
Unfortunately a number of books bought in Hong Kong are not suitable by; level, content, or vocabulary. Rather than increase interest in a subject they can poison a students desire to learn
Value for money?
Particularly with children’s books, how many pages are in the book, what is the cost of the book divided by the number of pages?
Will your child want to read it more than once?
* Tip, make use of the school and public library

|
Don’t
overload
your
children |
What is overloading?
After a long day at school, a child needs to rest and relax, no to mention large quantities of homework which range in quality and effectiveness |
Do not force your child to endure or undertake a large number of extra curricular activities or courses.
Allow your child the opportunity to relax, and learn how to decide to spend their free time.
After all childhood is a short lived thing and every child has the right to a happy childhood

Beware of private schools, centers and unqualified tutors!
|
The purpose of private tuition:
...is to provide, what the school are unable to provide, either due to time or ability restrictions, in a manner to suit the individual students requirments for maximised effective learning.
|
Many parents seem to think that the more work or the harder the work their children do, the higher the quality. This is utter nonsense.
Language learning needs to be set at the correct cognitive ability level for the student, which is if you wish for effective learning to take place. It needs to be meaningful and provoke thought (metacognative reflection) on the part of the student.
If you just wish your child to be punished and perform endless, meaningless repetitive drills, you could save a fortune by simply locking them in a wardrobe and not releasing them until they have completed the exercises in whatever terribly written exercise book you have purchased.
Ridiculously enough, some parents whom send their children to superb schools with superb teachers then send their children to private centers where the ‘teaching staff’ are unqualified and incompetent.
A simple analogy might be, if you were to pay for the healthiest food possible, everyday for 5 days a week.
Would you then wish to compliment this with 6 meals of Mac Donald’s at weekends in search of good health?
